A Slow and Comfortable Day

Marrowbone, Kentucky, Farm, Rural

It was Sunday. It had snowed the night before and the wind howled like a coyote all night long. Church was cancelled and the Greens slept in. When they felt like waking up, Mrs. Green tiptoed over to the curtains and flung them open. It was sunny and every now and then the wind blew the snow up into the air. It was fun to watch it from the warmth of the down covers.

Mrs. Green took her time making sausage and eggs for breakfast. She danced to the song, “If I Had a Million Dollars” with her spatula when it came on the radio, as she waited to flip the eggs. The house smelled of sausage and fresh air.

The Green’s puttered around the house all morning. They looked at seed catalogs, made cupcakes and egg salad for lunch, eating the cupcakes first, read, and relaxed.

It was nothing more than a slow and comfortable day.
